"Two brothers came over from Wales. They were Edward and Richard Jones. Edward was my grandfather, his son Edward was my father, he married Sarah White and settled near Dickerson Station, and took up a large tract of land, the old homestead was on the land owned by John Augustus Jones afterwards." Dickerson Station is near Poolesville.

EDWARD JONES (1735 - 1790)

"Edward Jones son of Edward born May 8th, 1735 and departed this life November 25th about 9 o'clock in the evening of the year of our Lord 1790." [Ref] He was buried in the family burial ground in Dickerson but his grave was moved to the Monocacy Cemetery in Beallsville, Montgomery, Maryland on 28 Nov 1895. He married Sarah Mary White on 22 Jul 1761. [Ref][Ref][Ref says 24 Jul]
Edward is believed to have received a grant of land from Lord Baltimore; as he had 11 sons, he called the place "Eleven Brothers". [Ref][Ref] The 598-1/4 acres piece of land called "Eleven Brothers" was surveyed for Edward Jones on 23 Aug 1786. It was patented to him on 4 Sep 1788. "...Edward and Sarah (White) Jones raised eleven sons and two daughters. So he called his farm "Eleven Brothers." [Ref]

LIEUT. JOSEPH JAMES WILKERSON JONES (1776 - 1840)

Capt. Joseph James Wilkerson Jones was born on 18 May 1776. [Ref][Ref][Ref] He died on 15 Dec 1840. [Ref] He was originally buried in the Chiswell Family cemetery in Poolesville, but was reintered in the Monocacy cemetery on 28 Nov 1895. [Ref] Click here to see a photo of his grave. He married his first cousin Ann Newton Chiswell [Ref, 2;226] on 23 Dec 1806. [Ref][Ref][Ref, lic. dated 22 Dec.]
Lieut. Joseph James Wilkerson took over his father's estate in 1790 [not likely, he was 14]. [Ref]
Joseph was made a Second Lieutenant of the Fourth Infantry on 1 Feb 1801. [Ref]
He was a soldier in the Seminole War. [Ref, p. 1;738]
In 1820 Joseph headed a household consisting of one free white male 26 - 44 [Joseph] one free white female 26 - 44 [Ann], one free white male 10 - 15 [unknown], three free white females 10 - 15 [Mary, Sarah and someone else], three free white males under ten [Edward, Joseph, William], one free white female under ten [Margaret] and 12 slaves. [Ref]
In 1820 there was also a Joseph J. Jones who lived in Vansville [in Beltsville, adjacent to Montgomery county], Prince George's county. He shows up in the 1830 and 1840 censuses as well. It is likely that one or both of the following records belong to him.
Capt. Joseph J. Jones was appointed chair of the delegates from the second election district of Ann Arundel and Prince George's counties who met in May 1832 to select a delegate to represent the district in the convention to choose a Vice President candidate. Martha Cissel, Joseph J. R. Cissel and Joseph J. Jones sued several members of the Cissel and Perry families over a petition to partition parcels of land in Ann Arundel county called Trusty Friend and Watts Forest on 14 Sep 1832. [Ref] Trueman Belt sued Joseph J. Jones over a contract to purchase springs in Beltsville on 28 Nov 1838. [Ref]
In 1840 Welkerson Jones lived in Medley, heading a household consisting of
one free white male 60 - 69 [Joseph], one free white female 50 - 59 [Ann], two
white males 20 - 29 [William, ?], one male 15 - 19 [John], one female 15 - 19
[Ann], one boy 10 - 14 [Nida], one girl 5 - 9 [Lizzie] and 14 slaves. [Ref]
