EDWARD SPALDING (d. 1669) of Chelmsford

Edward Spalding died on 26 Feb 1669 in Chelmsford. [Ref] He married first Margaret Unknown. She died in 1640 in Braintree. [Ref] He married second Rachel Unknown.
An Edward Spalding was on the grand jury at the 26 (10) 1648, 26 (4) 1649 and 29 (9) 1653 courts in Salem. [Ref] In 1648 he is referred to as of Wenham. [Ref] He was appointed to a committee for ending small causes on 21 (12) 1648. [Ref]
Edward Spalding was among the first residents of Chelmsford to join the the church there, joining on 27 (2) 1656. [Ref]

Benjamin Spalding was born on 7 (2) 1643 in Braintree. [Ref][Ref says son of Edward and Margaret and gives just the year] He was baptised on 1 Feb 1656/7 in Chelmsford, at age 14. [Ref] He married Olive Farwell, the daughter of Henry Farwell, on 30 Oct 1668 in Chelmsford. [Ref]
On 30 (3) 1671 the selectman of Chelmsford assessed the residents of the town to pay the minister; Benjamin was assessed a low rate: £0.18.0. [Ref]
Benjamin was an early freeholder of Plainfield, living on the east side of the Quinebaug. [Ref]

Edward Spalding was born on 18 Jun 1672 [Ref] in Chelmsford. [Ref] He died on 29 Nov 1739 [Ref says 1740] in Canterbury. [Ref] He married Mary Adams. [Ref] She died on 20 Sep 1754 in Canterbury. [Ref]
About 1690, and for several years after, many Chelmsford families migrated to Connecticut to found the new town of Canterbury. These included Capt. Joseph, Samuel, David and David Adams, Samuel and Josiah Cleveland, Jacob Warren, Joseph, William and Edward Spaulding, Eleazer Brown. [Ref]
Edward was an early freeholder of Plainfield, living on the east side of the Quinebaug. [Ref]
Edward Spalding became a member of the Canterbury Congregational Church on 19 Feb 1729/30: "The Chh accepted off the Recommendation of Edward Spaulden from the Pastor & Chh of Plainfield." [Ref, p. 42]
