On 14 Jun 6 men wrote a letter saying that they had been asked to present a solution to the dissent in Salem Village. They suggested calling a meeting of churches to mediate. Nicholas was one of the men who signed, but he refused to serve. [Ref]

He was sworn clerk of the market for Newbury at the 30 (7) 1651 court in Ipswich. [Ref] He was appointed a member of the committee to end small causes in Newbury on 25 Mar 1656. [Ref] He was appointed commissioner for Newbury on 31 Mar 1657. [Ref]

Nicholas was of Newbury when he made his will. His gravestone in the ancient cemetery in Stonington says:

In Expectation/of A joyful Resurrection/to Eternal Life/Here Lyeth Interred ye Body/of the Rev'd Mr. James Noyes/Aged 80 years/Who after A Faithful Serving/of the Church of Christ/In this Place/for more than 55 years/Deceased Decbr ye 30: 1719/20/Majesty, Meekness & Humilty/Here meet in one with greatest Charity. [Ref]

James was an original member of the Church of Christ in Stonington on 3 Jun 1674. [Ref] He was ordained as the first minister on 10 Sep 1674. [Ref]

In his will, Capt. George Denison refers to Mr. James Noyes as his "loving friend". [Ref]

In his will, dated, 4 Jul 1700, Rachel's father refers to her as Rachel, wife of James Jackman of Newbury. [Ref] On 14 Apr 1718 Rachel Jackman and her husband signed an agreement along with other relatives of Rachel's father. [Ref]

CAPT. THOMAS NOYES (1679-1755) of Stonington

Capt. Thomas Noyes was born on 15 Aug 1679 in Stonington. [Ref] He was baptised on 22 Sep 1679 in the First Congregational Church in Stonington. [Ref][Ref] He died on 26 Jun 1755 in Stonington. [Ref]. He married Elizabeth Sanford of Newport, RI on 3 Sep 1705 in Newport. [Ref][Ref]

Thomas was deputy to the general court six times between 1713-1733. [Ref][Ref] In 1723 he was made captain of the militia. [Ref] On 1725 he was on a committee to partition off the parish of Groton. [Ref]

Elizabeth Sanford Noyes of Westerly, RI married Lieut. Ichabod Palmer 2 on 29 Apr 1723, presumably in Westerly. [Ref]

On 31 May 1750 Elizabeth Palmer, executrix of her late husband's estate, showed the Assembly that his debts exceeded his moveable estate by about £1567 and asked for some land to be sold. The court appointed [her brother] Thomas Noyes, Jr. [Ref]
