John Holgate was buried on 26 Nov 1606 in Ovenden in the parish of Halifax. [Ref] His wife was buried on 12 Mar 1603/4 in Ovenden in the parish of Halifax. [Ref]

John Holgate, Sr. of Ovenden Moore in the diocese of York signed his will on 28 Oct 1606. It was proved on 16 Apr 1607. He mentions his eldest son Michael; his second son John; children Nathaniel, Elizabeth, Susan, Martha and Sarah; brother George Holgate. [Ref]

  1. Abrahm Holgate was baptised on 10 Sep 1564 in Sowerby in the parish of Halifax. [Ref] He was buried on 26 Feb 1565/6 in Northowram in the parish of Halifax. [Ref]
  2. Susan Holgate married Isaac Wilson.
  3. Michael Holgate was baptised on 21 Jan 1570 in Sowerby in the parish of Halifax. [Ref] He may have died by 19 (6) 1648 when Nathaniel Wilson sold the property in Ovenden that had belonged to Nathaniel Holgate.
  4. Elizabeth Holgate was baptised on 6 Jan 1574 in Sowerby in the parish of Halifax. [Ref] She was living on 30 Mar 1624. She married Michael Earnshaw on 16 May 1614 in Sowerby. [Ref]
  5. John Holgate was baptised on 14 Sep 1579 in Sowerby in the parish of Halifax. [Ref] He may have died between 28 Oct 1606, when he is mentioned in his father's will, and 30 Mar 1624, when his brother failed to mention him in his will.
  6. Martha Holgate was baptised on 28 Dec 1581 in Sowerby in the parish of Halifax. [Ref] She was living on 11 Jun 1624.
  7. Henry Holgate was baptised on 17 Nov 1583 in Sowerby in the parish of Halifax. [Ref] He probably died before 28 Oct 1606, when his father did not mention him in his will.
  8. Sarah Holgate was baptised on 27 Feb 1585 in Sowerby in the parish of Halifax. [Ref] She married James Wilkerson on 13 Oct 1618 in Sowerby. [Ref] She was living on 30 Mar 1624.
  9. Esther Holgate was baptised on 3 Nov 1588 in Sowerby in the parish of Halifax. [Ref] She probably died before 28 Oct 1606, when her father did not mention her in his will.
  10. Nathaniel Holgate was baptised on 29 Aug 1591 in Sowerby in the parish of Halifax. [Ref] He died between 30 Mar 1624 and 11 Jun 1624. Nathaniel, a clothier of Warley, Halifax, signed his will on 30 Mar 1624. He left his messuages, lands and tenements in Ovenden to his brothers-in-law Frances Wilkinson [an error for James Wilkinson or the husband of Martha?] and Michael Earnshaw for the life of Nathaniel's brother Michael, to whom they were to pay the rents and profits. After Michael's death, this property was to go his sisters Elizabeth, Susan, Martha and Sarah. He also left £50 pounds to the ten children of Elizabeth, Susan and Sarah and gave the residue to his executors James Wilkinson, Richard Earnshaw [an error for Michael Earnshaw?] , Isaac Wilson and his sister Martha. The will was proved on 11 Jun 1624 by James Wilkinson, Michael Earnshaw, Isaac Wilson and his sister Martha. [Ref]

ISAAC WILSON (bp. 1567 - by 1631) of Halifax

Isaac Wilson was baptised on 15 Jun 1567 in Halifax. [Ref] He died before 26 Jul 1631. He married Susan Holgate on 17 May 1611 in Sowerby in the parish of Halifax. [Ref]

On 26 [Jul?] 1631, Jacob Wilson and Joseph Wilson, the children of Isaac Wilson, late of Blackwood in Sowerby, clothier, by Susan his late wife, the sister of Nathaniall Holgate, late of Warley, clothier, released their interest in a messuage in Ovenden to James Wilson the elder of Sowerby. As Jacob and Joseph were underage, their share £10 of the purchase money was retained. [Ref; Quitclaim DD99/B15/3]

  4. John Wilson was baptised on 11 Jul 1619 in Warley in the parish of Halifax. [Ref]
  5. Nathaniel Wilson was baptised on 2 Aug 1621 in Warley in the parish of Halifax. He married Hannah Crafts.

SUSAN HOLGATE (d. by 1631)

Susan Holgate married Isaac Wilson on 17 May 1611 in Sowerby in the parish of Halifax. [Ref] She is described as the late Isaac's late wife in a 26 Jul 1631 quitclaim (see his entry) but a Halifax parish record says that the widow of Isaac Wilson died on 11 Nov 1632 in Ovenden. [Ref]

NATHANIEL WILSON (bp. 1621 - 1692) of Halifax, Roxbury, Boston and Newton

Nathaniel Wilson was baptised on 2 Aug 1621 in Warley in the parish of Halifax, Yorkshire. [Ref] He died on 17 Sep 1692 in Newton. [Ref] He married Hannah Crafts on 2 Apr 1645 in Roxbury. [Ref] She died on 18 Aug 1692 in Newton. in Newton. [Ref]

On 19 (9) 1647 Nathaniel Wilson of Roxbury appointed John Wilson, a cloth worker of Halifax, Yorkshire, his true attorney and asked him to ask Nathaniel Holgate of Halifax about a legacy. [Ref] On 19 (6) 1648 Nathaniel Wilson of Roxbury sold a messuage and land in Ovenden, Yorkshire to Joseph Wood. [Ref][Ref]

He lived in Roxbury and in the part of Boston called Muddy River (Brookline).

Nathaniel Wilson moved to Cambridge Village (Newton), where he purchased about 150 acres. [Ref]

  1. Hannah Wilson was baptised on 2 May 1647 in Roxbury. [Ref] She died on 13 Feb 1721/2, age 75. [Ref] She married Shubael Seaver on 7 Feb 1668. [Ref] Shubael, the son of Robert Seaver, was born on 31 Jan 1639 and died on 18 Jan 1729/30. [Ref]
  2. Susanna Wilson was born about 1648. died on 29 Dec 1725 in Hingham, age 77. [Ref] She married Lieut. Thomas Gill on 31 Dec 1673. [Ref]

  3. Nathaniel Wilson was baptised on 8 May 1653 in Roxbury. [Ref] He married first Hannah Jackson in 1681. [Ref] She was the daughter of Edward Jackson [Ref] and the first cousin of Deliverance Jackson. She died on 26 Sep 1690 in Newton. [Ref] He married second Elizabeth Osland on 11 Mar 1692/3 in Newton. [Ref][Ref] Elizabeth, the daughter of Humphrey and Elizabeth (Hyde) Osland, was born on 25 Jan 1667/8. [Ref]
    Nathaniel (or possibly his father) is on a 5 Sep 1688 list of tax payers in Little Cambridge (Newton). [Ref] He moved to Framingham. [Ref]

  6. Isaac Wilson was born in 1658. [Ref] He died on 2 or 3 Apr 1709 in Newton. [Ref] He married Susanna Andrews on 19 Jul 1685 in Newton. [Ref] It is possible that she is the widow Susanna who died on 27 Nov 1740 in Newton. [Ref]
  7. Mary Wilson was born on 22 May 1661. [Ref] She married Thomas Oliver on 10 Mar 1682 in Newton. [Ref]
  8. Abigail Wilson was born in 1663. [Ref] She died in 1746, aged 83. [Ref] She married Dea. Edward Jackson as his second wife. [Ref] He was the son of Edward Jackson [Ref] and the first cousin of Deliverance Jackson.
  9. Samuel Wilson married Experience Unknown. She died on 10 Oct 1705 in Newton. [Ref]

Joseph Wilson was born on 30 Jan 1656 in Roxbury. [Ref] He died in 1725 [Ref] in Newton. [Ref] He married Deliverance Jackson. [Ref] She died on 18 May 1718 in Newton. [Ref]

Joseph was a wheelright. [Ref] He is on a 5 Sep 1688 list of tax payers in Little Cambridge (Newton). [Ref]

His will was signed on 30 Sep 1724 and proved on 30 April 1725. Inventory on his estate was taken on 26 Apr 1725. In his will he mentions his eldest daughter Sarah Trowbridge; daughters Hannah Turner, Deliverance Squire, Mary Wilson, Experience Williams, Elizabeth Ward; Ebenezer Smith, the son of his daughter Abigail; James Greenwood, the son of his daughter Thankful; son Josiah Wilson. [Ref]

Children of Joseph Wilson and Deliverance Jackson:

  1. Sarah Wilson is referred to by her father as his eldest daughter, but the records say that she was born after her brother Josiah in Newton. [Ref] She married Unknown Trowbridge.
  2. Hannah Wilson was born on 10 Jun 1686 in Newton. [Ref] She married Unknown Turner
  3. Deliverance Wilson was born on 11 Oct 1687 in Newton. She died on 17 Apr 1726. She married Daniel Squire.
  4. Margaret Wilson was born on 27 Feb 1689 in Newton. [Ref] She probably died before 30 Sep 1724, when her father did not mention her in his will.
  5. Thankful Wilson was born on 24 or 25 Mar 1691/2 in Newton. [Ref] She married Unknown Greenwood and had a son. She appears to have died before 30 Sep 1724.
  6. Mary Wilson was born on 24 Jan or Jun 1694 in Newton. [Ref] She was unmarried on 30 Sep 1724.
  7. Experience Wilson was born on 10 Nov 1696 in Newton. [Ref] She died on 13 Mar 1761. [Ref] She married Capt. William Williams of Newton and Mansfield, CT on 27 Sep 1721. [Ref] William was born on 19 Sep 1690 and died on 4 Feb 1767 in Mansfield. [Ref] He was a representative to the General Court of Connecticut. [Ref]
