Generation 1

MICHAEL SALLOWS (d. 1646)

Parents:

Michael Sallows died between 14 (9) 1646, when his will was dated, and 31 (10) 1646, when it was proved. [Ref] He married Ann Unknown.

Michael sued James Smith for trespassing at the 27 (7) 1636 meeting of Court in Salem. [Ref] He sued him for defamation at the 26 (4) 1638 meeting of the Court in Salem. [Ref]

At the 9 (5) 1645 Court at Salem, Reuben Guppy was presented to the Court for saying that "if his wife had been ruled by him, Michael Sallows should have come to his house to his wife, and he would have hid himself in some secret place, and come in and taken Sallows there and gotten his share of corn." [Ref] Also at that Court, Michael Sallows was presented for wanton dalliance with Reuben Guppy's wife. The case was discharged. [Ref]

Ann Sallows was called as a witness at the 27 (4) 1643 Court in Salem. [Ref]

In his will, Michael left £8 for his youngest son Michael's education. He mentions his daughter Martha and asks John Jackson to bring her up. He also mentions his children Thomas, Robert, John, Samuel and his son-in-law Edward Wilson. [Ref] On 28 (10) 1647 the Court at Salem mentioned that two of Michael's children were living with John Jackson. [Ref]

Edward may be a stepson; the term son-in-law was used more loosely in the 17th century than today.
