From Marian Johnson's diary, 7 Dec 1931

Gramper was here tonight talking about old times in Denmark. He said they raised their own flax, combed and spun it and made it into cloth. He said they ironed their clothes by using a big drawer filled with rocks with rollers on the bottom -- rolled it back and forth on a table. He said he had four sisters and one brother. One of his sisters died young and one, Bodel, was probably still living. The two married sisters were Sofia and Trine (Christine's mother) Christine's mother gave her farm to Sophia's husband and gave Christine some money - not nearly the worth of the farm which was quite valuable. Sophia has some children. Daddy said he had 2 sisters that married 2 brothers and 2 cousins that married 2 brothers. The cousins were Hannah and Ama Christianson who married the Peche brothers of Minnesota. Daddy said in those days the son took the father's first name. His father's name was Louis Yensen, hence his name was Larsen. His mother's name was Frederickson before she married. She had 3 brothers that lived in that same locality. Daddy said they roasted their own coffee on the stove stirring it to keep it from burning. They took their grain to the mill and got back bread in return. He said it was roasted in Dutch ovens. Daddy said the place they were from was Kenelluft (Kyndelose) seven Danish miles from Copenhagen, a Danish mile being about 4 English miles.
