REV. JOHN HOWSE (d. 1630) of Eastwell

John Howse, clerk, of Eastwell, co. Kent, made his his noncupative will on 30 Aug 1630, a week before his death. [Ref] It was proved on 8 Sep 1630. [Ref] He mentions his wife Alice. [Ref]

Children of John Howse:

  1. Hannah Howse died in 1633. She married Rev. John Lothrop.
  2. John Howse was baptised on 19 Jun 1603 in Eastwell. [Ref] John House of Leneham married Mary Osborne of Ashborne by a license of 18 Sep 1628. [Ref]
    John's wedding licence says that he is a saddler and about 21. His fiancee Mary is about 20 and the daughter of Edward Osborne, yeoman of Leneham. He was to be married at Eastwell, where his father was rector. [Ref]
  3. Priscilla Howse was baptised on 25 Aug 1605 in Eastwell. [Ref] She was buried on 28 Nov 1618 in Eastwell. [Ref]
  4. Thomas Howse was baptised on 21 Aug 1607 in Eastwell. [Ref] He died after 18 Oct 1643, when he signed his will. [Ref, p. 424-428]
    Thomas Howse of St. Stephen's parish in Coleman Street, London, citizen and brown baker, made bequests to his brother Samuel Howse and his sister Pennina Linnell. [Ref, p. 424-428]
  5. Samuel Howse was baptised on 10 Jun 1610 in Eastwell. [Ref] He died on 12 Sep 1661. [Ref, p. 424-428] He married Elizabeth Hammond late in 1635. [Ref] Elizabeth was the daughter of Elizabeth (Paine) Hammond of Watertown. [Ref]
    Samuel was imprisoned in 1632 in London. [Ref, p. 424-428] He came to New England in 1634, probably with his brother-in-law Rev. John Lothrop. [Ref] He moved to Cambridge by 1642; Barnstable by 1645 and Scituate by 1646. [Ref, p. 424-428] He was admitted to the Scituate church on 8 Jan 1634/5. [Ref, p. 424-428] He was a freeman on 1 Jan 1634/5. [Ref, p. 424-428]
    On 20 (5) 1649 Samuel Howse of Scituate, shipwright, gave Thomas Tarte of Scituate, merchant, power of attorney to execute the will of Thomas House, watchmaker, late of London. This Thomas may be Samuel's older brother. [Ref]
  6. Henry Howse was baptised on 28 Jun 1612 in Eastwell. [Ref]
  7. Pennina Howse married Robert Linnell in 1638 in Scituate. [Ref, p. 424-428]

HANNAH HOWSE (d. 1633)

Parents: John Howse [Ref] and Alice Unknown

Hannah Howse died in 1633. [Ref] She married Rev. John Lothrop. [Ref] In 10 Oct 1610 a license was issued for the marriage of John Lothrop, M.A., curate of Egerton and Hannah Howse of Eastwell, virgin. [Ref]

Hannah was the sister of Samuel House. [Ref][Ref, p. 424-428]

Samuel House died before 1661 when inventory was taken on his estate in Scituate. [Ref] He was a member of the Situate church on 8 Jan 1634/5. [Ref] He is said by a competent genealogist to be the son of Rev. John Howse. The same genealogist also says that Thomas House of Yarmouth may be his brother. [Ref] He married Elizabeth, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Paine) Hammond of Watertown, about 1635. [Ref] He went to Barnstable with the Lothrop group, but later returned. [Ref]
