Obituary

Mrs. C. L. Hanson, whose recent death at Seattle and burial at Arndahl cemetery last Wednesday was noted in last week's paper, was a native of Denmark and was born December 15, 1833. Her maiden name was Gena Hanson. She was married to Mr. Hanson Nov. 7th, 1860.

In 1866 the family emigrated to America. Cholera broke out on ship board on the trip over and two of their children died on the journey, besides which the familly lost all their baggage through a swindler at New York who offered to attend to the shipment of the goods to Minnesota. The family came to Minnesota on July 6th of the same year, and settled on a homestead claim in section 4, Danielson town, which was at that time almost an unbroken prairie. They built the second frame house in the township, hauling a part of the lumber from St. Cloud. Their first child born in America, Arnt P. H. Hanson, died June 16, 1868, and was the first death in the township. Arndahl church was named after this son and the pastor Mr. Dahl. Mrs. Hanson moved to Litchfield in 1896, where she lived until 1901, when she went to Kalispell to live with her daughter Mrs. Larson, a year later moving with them to Seattle, where her death occurred, due to an accident which befel her, breaking one of her hips. She was a lady of most estimable characher and one whose virtues are a bright example to her descendants. The funeral here was attended by many of the old friends and neighbors, who assembled to give her the last tribute of respect for her well spent life.
