Edward was sued by Mr. Samuel Winsley, who wished "to recover his bolts from those who made use of them", at the 24 (2) 1649 court. [Ref 1;165] He was sued for carrying hay off of Francis Dove's land at the Mar 1664 court; the verdict was for the plaintiff. [Ref 3;147]

The church was extensively rebuilt and expanded in the 19th century.

Edward signed his will on 10 Apr 1673. It was proved by his widow Anne on 13 Apr 1675. He left Joseph French, the eldest son of his son Joseph six score acres of upland above the mill by the mill river and his parcel of marsh or meadow by the beach called his Sweepage. He left Joseph's second son Symon land called Long Piece. He left John French, the eldest son of his son John, 30 acres of upland in Hall Farm with the meadow belonging to it, four acres of meadow in the Cow Common and a piece of salt marsh called his first pigley. He left Samuel French, the eldest son of his son Samuel all of his land lying between the orchard and the street and his land lying between Long Piece and Joseph Fletcher's land. He left his son John's newborn son the 500 acres his father was currently enjoying. He also left bequests to his wife; Edward the son of Joseph; his daughter Philbrook; Ann, the daughter of his son Joseph; Mary, Hannah and Sarah, the daughters of his son John; Abigail and Hannah, daughters of his son Samuel; his sons Joseph, John and Samuel. Both Edward's son Samuel and his grandson Samuel, the son of his son Samuel, were deceased by 27 Sep 1694 when a group of the original beneficiaries petitioned the court to divide his grandson Samuel's inheritance. Those petitioning were Joseph Eaton, who had married Mary French, Edward French, Sr., Edward French, Jr., Sarah French, Hannah Philbrook, William Philbrook and Anna French, alias Long. On 29 Oct 1694 power of attorney was given to Mr. Joseph Eaton of Salisbury in right of his wife to act for Sgt. Thomas Philbrook; Hannah Phibrick; William Philbrook; Anna Long, widow, daughter of Joseph French; Edward French, Sr.; Hannah French; Sarah French. It was agreed that Samuel's land would be divided into 19 shares. Twelve of the shares were given to the grandchildren who had been the original beneficiaries, excluding Joseph, the son of Joseph, who was deceased. The other seven shares were given to Edward's daughter Hannah Philbrook; grandson Samuel's siblings Henry, Nathaniel, Joanna, John and Esther; Joseph French. The Joseph French who received a share is probably an unrecorded sibling of Samuel. There was a Joseph French of the right age in Salisbury who named his first three children Samuel, Abigail and Nathaniel. In the agreement, Hannah's son John is referred to as Ens. John White, Joseph's daughter Anne is referred to as Ann French alias Mudjit, John's daughter Hannah is referred to as Hannah French alias Wintworth, John's daughter Mary is referred to as Mary French alias Nelson, Samuel's daughter Hannah is referred to as Hannah French alias Nelson. The agreement was signed by Joseph Eaton on behalf of Hannah French, alias Wintwort,' Thomas Philbrook and Hannah his wife; William Phibrick; Ann French, alias Mudgett; Edward French, Sr., Edward French, Jr., Sarah French; Mary French, wife of Joseph French; John French; James Jackman as guardian and in behalf of Johanna French; Symond French; Thomas Nelson on behalf of his wife Hannah; John French as guardian and in behalf of Nalthaniel French; Richard Jackman, guardian and in behalf of John French, Henry French, Abigail French. [Ref, pp. 441-6]

Edward French was freed to pursue damages against Mr. Hall on 22 May 1661. [Ref, p. 846] In his will of 1662 Rev. William Worcester called Edward French his brother. [Ref] Young John Hall, the stepson of Rev. William Worcester, called Edward "uncle French" in a letter dated 11 Mar 1663/4. [Ref, p. 846][Ref] French and Sanborn say that Edward is probaby unrelated to William's second wife or to her previous husbands. They conjecture that either Edward's wife is William's sister or that William's wife is Edward's sister. [Ref] The marriage record in the St. Andrew's parish register combined with the will of Joseph Worcester of Rugby, dated 10 Feb 1644/5 and transcribed on the Worcester Family website, appear to confirm that Edward married Anne Worcester. "Joseph Worcester, the elder of Rugbie in the county of Warw yeoman" mentions his wife Alice and makes bequests of 12 pence to each of his children: his eldest son William Worceter, his son Joseph Worcester, his daughter Anne French, his daughter Alice Cave and his daughter Susanna Mason.

As seen in the chart below, the French, Jackman and Noyes families intermarried several times.
