1638. John Beale, shoemaker with his wife and 5 sons and 3 daughters and 2 servants, came from Old Hingham and settled at New Hingham. ... All the persons above named that came over in the year 1638, were 133, came in one ship called the Diligent of Ipswich ...

John Beal was a freeman on 13 Mar 1638/9. [Ref]

John Beal received land in Hingham in 1638. [Ref] He bought a four-acre planting lot in Weymouth Neck in Hingham from Henry Chamberlain, Sr. on 16 Oct 1647. [Ref]

John Beal - a nephew or other close relation of John - "being by a providence of God to goe to old England" made his will on 26 Oct 1657. He left 30 s. each to his cousin Mary Whiton, wife of James Whiton, and Elizabeth Lassell. Children of John Beal and Frances Ripley. Beal [Ref] provides their names and birthdates; they were all born in England.

  1. John Beal was born in 1619. He died young. [Ref]
  2. Martha Beal was born in 1620. She died on 26 Apr 1690. She married first William Fallowell. She married second Samuel Dunham.
  3. Mary Beal was born in 1622. She died on 12 (12) 1686. [Ref] She married James Whiton on 30 Dec 1648. [Ref][Ref says 1647] James, the son of Thomas Whiton, was baptised on 20 Mar 1624 in Hook Norton, Oxfordshire. [Ref] He died on 26 Apr 1710. [Ref] He was a farmer and paid some of the highest taxes in Hingham. [Ref] James' and Mary's house was burned by the Indians in 1676. [Ref] They had a son and a daughter. [Ref][Ref says nine children; four died young]
  4. Sarah Beal was born in 1625. She died on 11 (9) 1710 in Braintree. [Ref] She married first Thomas Marsh in Mar 1649 in Hingham. [Ref] He died on 2 Sep 1658. Aldridge [Ref] says that he was 79 when he died and thus was born in 1629 and was Nazareth's son. However, she also says that the Martha Beal who was baptised on 19 Aug 1746 [Ref] is his daughter. In this case it is unlikely that he was born after 1625 and thus is more likely to be Frances's son.
