Helliwell speculates that Stragewell might be Stradishall, Suffolk, but there
is no marriage record for James there. He suggests that James and Grace might
have been the James Barker and Grace Risine who were married at St. Peter, Southgate,
Norwich, Norfolk on 22 Nov 1636. Helliwell speculates further that Grace might
not have been James' first wife. [Ref]
James, his wife Grace and their son Barzillai, along with James's brother Thomas
and Thomas's wife Mary, were among the twenty Puritan families who came from
England under the leadership of Rev. Ezekel Rogers. [Ref]
They arrived in Salem in 1638. [Ref] The following
April, having joined with about forty others, they bought land next to Newbury

from ordinary training. [Ref]

who failed to attend town meetings. [Ref] They
were on a jury of inquest which returned a verdict on 29 Jan 1670/1. [Ref]
The were on the same side in a dispute of some parishners who did not want to
