  1. Thomas Barker was buried on 30 Nov 1649 in Rowley. [Ref] He married Mary Unknown. She died after 17 Apr 1660, when her second husband signed his will, making her his sole exexecutrix. She married second Rev. Ezekial Rogers on 16 Jul 1651 in Rowley. [Ref]
    Thomas left bequests in his will to Rev. Ezekiel Rogers, his "Deare Sister" Jane Lambert, Thomas Leaver and his wife, John Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson, Thomas Lambert, his "well beloved wife Mary Barker", the brothers and sister of Thomas Lambert if Thomas were to die before reaching 21 and his "beloved Brethern" Thomas Mighill and Mathew Boyes.
    Thomas was a cousin of Robert Johnson of Rowley. [Ref, 6;207]
    Thomas is said to be the brother of James, [Ref] but evidence of this is lacking.

James was born in "Stragewell, in Low Suffolk in Old England". [Ref quotes James in his will][Ref] He died on 5 Sep 1678. [Ref] He was buried on 7 Sep 1678 in Rowley. [Ref] He married first Grace Unknown on 25 Jan 1635. [Ref] Grace died on 27 Dec 1665 in Rowley. [Ref] She was buried there on 27 (12) 1665. [Ref][Ref 3;295 says 27 (2)] He married second Mary, the widow of John Wyatte, on 22 May 1666 in Rowley. [Ref][Ref][Ref] She died on 12 Apr 1684. [Ref] [Ref says that she died on 10 Apr 1683 in Rowley] At the time of her death she had been blind for many years. [Ref] Mary married first Edward Riddlesdale, the son of John Riddlesdale, about 1619. [Ref]

Helliwell speculates that Stragewell might be Stradishall, Suffolk, but there is no marriage record for James there. He suggests that James and Grace might have been the James Barker and Grace Risine who were married at St. Peter, Southgate, Norwich, Norfolk on 22 Nov 1636. Helliwell speculates further that Grace might not have been James' first wife. [Ref]

James, his wife Grace and their son Barzillai, along with James's brother Thomas and Thomas's wife Mary, were among the twenty Puritan families who came from England under the leadership of Rev. Ezekel Rogers. [Ref] They arrived in Salem in 1638. [Ref] The following April, having joined with about forty others, they bought land next to Newbury and Ipswich and established the town of Rowley. [Ref] Rowley was named after the Yorkshire parish that had been in Rev. Rogers' charge. [Ref]

James was a freeman on 7 Oct 1640. [Ref] He was on the trial jury at the 27 (1) 1649, 26 (1) 1650, 29 (1) 1653, 30 Sep 1656, 31 Mar 1657, 28 (7) 1658, 9 Mar 1659, 25 Sep 1650, 31 Mar 1663, 29 Sep 1663, 30 Sep 1673, 31 Mar 1674, 30 Sep 1673 and 31 Mar 1674 courts at Ipswich. James was a tailor in Rowley in 1655. [Ref]

The 9 Apr 1657 court at Ipswich told him to pay 5 shillings and released him from ordinary training. [Ref] He is on a 1660/4 list of tax payers in Rowley. [Ref]

On 8 Jan 1668/9 George Kilbourne and James Barker were chosen judges for the west end of town to hear the cases of people who failed to attend town meetings. [Ref] They were on a jury of inquest which returned a verdict on 29 Jan 1670/1. [Ref] The were on the same side in a dispute of some parishners who did not want to make a payment to Rev. Jeremiah Shephard on 18 Jan 1676/7. [Ref]

James was a freeholder in Rowley in 1677. [Ref]

On 16 Mar 1677/8 James sued John Kimball for not paying him 48 cords of firewood which was due his wife, formerly called "Mary Wiate". [Ref 6;422] [Ref]

In his will, James calls George Kilbourne "brother". [Ref]

The 28 Sep 1680 court at Ipswich asked Nehemiah Jewitt and Mr Wilson, the overseers of James's will to make sure that adequate provision had been made for his widow. [Ref]

John Barker was born on 21 Apr 1758 in Rowley. [Ref][Ref] He married Mary Jackman on 27 Mar 1781 in Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts. [Ref says that Mary is of Byfield, Rowley][Ref does not give the location][Ref, from Rowley town records]

John was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. [Ref] He moved to Londonderry in 1786 [this is not consistent with his first two children being born in Londonderry] and was living there in 1796. [Ref] He moved to Bethel in 1804. [Ref] He was town officer in 1806. [Ref, p. 165] In 1812 he was appointed to the Committee of Safety. [Ref, p. 169] John was one of those who signed a petition to divide the town. The town voted against this on 18 May 1815. [Ref, p. 171]

He is mentioned in the will of his grandfather Samuel Stickney. [Ref]

Hannah Jackman Barker was born on 26 Jul 1801 [Ref, p. 475], probably in Londonderry, Rockingham, New Hampshire. Her gravestone says that she died on 27 Aug 1874, aged 73 years and one month. [Ref] She is buried in Bethel, Oxford, Maine [Ref] in the South Bethel cemetery. [Ref] She married James Walker [Ref, p. 637] on 21 Feb 1822.

In 1870 she was living in Bethel with her son Cullen. [Ref]
