Generation 1

SGT. ROBERT BADCOCK (c. 1625 - 1694) of Dorchester and Milton

Parents: Appleton [Ref, p. ] asserts that David Badcock, who was a member of the Dorchestor church in 1640, was probably a father of Robert, George Badcock and Margaret Badcock.

Robert Badcock was born about 1625. [Ref] He died in 1694. [Ref][Ref, p. 21] He married Joanna Unknown. [Ref, p. 21][Ref says Isana? or Joanna?] She was born about 1629. [Ref] She died in 1700, age 71. [Ref][Ref, p. 21]

Robert was an assessor in Dorchester in 1657. [Ref, p. 21]

Robert Badcock was one of the first land owners in Milton. [Ref, p. 12] He had a track of 107 acres between the brook bearing his name and the Neponset river. [Ref, p. 14] In 1670 he purchased land west of his own from Teague Crehore; in 1671 he purchased land from Nathaniel Duncan. [Ref, p. 16]

On 22 Feb 1666, Robert was one of the inhabitants of Milton signing an agreement saying they were willing to move the meeting house. [Ref, p. 4] On 6 Aug 1669, the town minster, Mr. Emerson, said that he was leaving. Sgt. Badcock was one of the men chosen to get some help for the sabbath.[Ref, p. 4] On 19 Nov 1669 Sgt. Badcock was one of the men chosen to set a rate to pay for the purchase of land and a house for the ministry and to pay Mr. Emerson. [Ref, p. 5] On 10 Dec 1669 Sgt. Babcock was one of the men chosen to check on the payment of Mr. Emerson. [Ref, p. 8] On 16 Feb 1669/70, Mrs. Emerson said that everyone but George Badcock had paid. [Ref, p. 8] On the last day of Sep 1670, Sgt. Badcock was one of the men chosen to arrange for a new meetinghouse to be built. [Ref, p. 8-9] On 10 (1) 70/71 Robert Badcock was one of the men chosen to oversee the building of the meetinghouse. [Ref, p. 11] Robert Badcock was chosen selectman on 8 Dec 1673. [Ref, p. 16] On 13 Sep 1676 Sgt. Robert Babcock was one of the men chosen to receive payment for Mr. Mighell. On 12 (1) 76/77 Robert was selectman. [Ref, p. 23] On 10 Dec 1677 Robert Badcock was chosen selectman. [Ref, p. 25] On 13 (12) 1678 Robert Badcock was taxed. [Ref, p. 27] Sgt. Robert Badcock was chosen a rate setter on 15 (10) 1685. [Ref, p. 41] Robert Badcock was commissioner in Milton in 1687. [Ref, p. 48] On 8 Jun 1691 Robert Badcock was chosen selectman. [Ref, p. 87]

Samuel Badcock was constable in Milton in 1662 and 1685 [Ref, p. 19]

  2. Jonathan Badcock was born in 1655 [Ref, p. 21] in Dorchester [Ref, p. 2 says 1652] [Ref, p. 20] says that he was the eldest son. He died on 5 Jan 1732 in Coventry, CT. [Ref, p. 4] He married first Mary Curtis on 1 Aug 1676. [Ref, p. 4] She died on 28 Mar 1719. [Ref, p. 4] He married second Mary Heberd on 19 Oct 1719. [Ref, p. 4]
  3. James Badcock was born in 1654 in Dorchester. [Ref, p. 2]
  4. Abigail Badcock was born in 1656 in Dorchester. [Ref, p. 2] She was baptised on 27 Apr 1656 in Dorchester [Ref, d. Robert and Joanna of Dorchester] She died on 15 Dec 1693. [Ref] She married John Barbour of Medfield on 17 Dec 1674. [Ref, p. 2]
  5. Nathaniel Badcock was born on 14 Mar 1658 [Ref, p. 21, says 1657] in Dorchester. [Ref, p. 2] He died on 7 Jan 1719. [Ref, p. 4] He married Hannah Unknown. [Ref, p. 4]
  6. Caleb Badcock was born on 14 Aug 1660 [Ref, p. 21 gives the year] in Dorchester. [Ref, p. 2]
  7. Ebenezer Badcock was born on 2 Oct 1662 in Milton. He died on 15 Dec 1717 in Sherborn. He married Hannah Barbour.
  8. Hopestill Badcock was born in 1663 in Milton. [Ref, p. 2]
  9. Hannah Badcock was born on 8 Feb 1664/5 [Ref, p. 21] in Milton. [Ref][Ref, p. 2] She died on 9 Nov 1711. [Ref, p. 2] She married Joseph Morse of Sherborn on 11 Apr 1683. [Ref, p. 2] Joseph was the son of Joseph Morse. He died on 19 Feb 1718. [Ref, p. 2]
  10. Elizabeth Badcock was born on 24 Dec 1666 [Ref, p. 21] in Milton. [Ref][Ref, p. 2] She died on 18 Oct 1732. [Ref, p. 2] She married Henry Vose of Milton. [Ref, p. 21] Henry was the son of Capt. Thomas and Waitstill (Wyatt) Vose [Ref, p. 17-19] and probably the grandson of Robert Vose. He was born on 9 Apr 1663. [Ref, p. 19] He died on 17 Mar 1752. MARGARET BADCOCK (c. 1630 - 1705)

Parents: Appleton [Ref, p. ] asserts that David Badcock, who was a member of the Dorchestor church in 1640, was probably a father of Robert, George Badcock and Margaret Badcock.

Margaret Badcock was the sister of Robert Badcock of Milton. [Ref, p. 72] She was born about 1630. She died on 21 May 1705 [Ref, p. 72, aged about 75 years] in Sherborn. [Ref, w. Henry] She married Henry Leland.
