John and his son John were early inhabitants of Lancaster, they signed the

contingent on estate size. In 1654 estates were valued and John's - at about
£241 - was the nineth largest of the 30 eligible inhabitants; his son
John's - at about £29 - was the third smallest. [Ref]
He was given about nine acres of meadow in 1654; his son John was given about
an acre. [Ref] At a town meeting on 1 (9)

however, accused John and his sons of theft. Angry at this charge, John complained
that it was only "through age and weakness" that he had agreed to
the compensation and asked the court to reconsider the matter.
The court refused. [Ref] In Mar 1675/6,
John, his son John and Job Whitcomb were some of the inhabitants of Lancaster
who petitioned the government for assistance. [Ref]

Fifth Generation
JONATHAN WHITCOMB (1749 - 1822) of Bolton,
Templeton and Florida
Parents: Israel Whitcomb and Azubah
Houghton [Ref, 2;402]
Jonathan Whitcomb was born on 27 Apr 1749 in Bolton. [Ref]
He died in 1822. [Ref, 2;422] He married
Relief Fyfe [Ref]
on 1 Jun 1773 [Ref] in Bolton. [Ref]
They had ten children. [Ref]
Jonathan was a carpenter and a miller; he was lame. [Ref,
2;422]
Jonathan moved to Templeton and then to Florida. [Ref]
He was one of the first selectman of Florida. [Ref]
Children of Jonathan Whitcomb and Relief Fyfe:
- Relief Whitcomb was born on 4 Jan 1774
in Bolton. [Ref]
- Jonathan Whitcomb [Ref]
married a daughter of Samuel Whitcomb. [Ref,
2;422]
Jonathan lived in Canada and Leon, Cattaraugus, New York. [Ref,
2;422]
- Sarah Whitcomb was born on 15 Mar
1783 in Templeton. She was baptised on 3 Sep 1786 in Templeton. She died on
12 Sep 1838. She married Jeremy Slocum.
- Patience Whitcomb was baptised on
3 Jun 1787 in Templeton. [Ref] The wife of
Silas Osgood died on 3 Jan 1849. [Ref,
p. 122] She married Silas Osgood [Ref,
2;422] on 24 Nov 1802 in Templeton. [Ref, she
is called "Seney"] Silas, the son of Joseph and Huldah Osgood was
born on 29 Sep 1781 in Templeton. [Ref][Ref,
p. 57, Huldah Church] He died on 11 Feb 1851 in Parma, Monroe, New York. [Ref,
p. 122]
Osgood says that he married Asenath Whitcome. [Ref,
p. 122] Presumably "Seney" could be a nickname for Patience or Asenath.
Silas and his wife named their first two children Silas and Patience.
Silas and his wife moved to Waterville, Kennebec, Maine, back to Templeton
and finally to Parma.
Silas was the grandson of Dea. Jonathan Osgood [Ref,
p. 29], the greatgrandson of Hooker Osgood [Ref,
p. 17], the great-great-grandson of Stephen Osgood and the great-great-great-grandson
of the immigrant John Osgood. [Ref,
p. 12]

Whitcomb
- Polly Whitcomb was baptised on 21 Jun
1789 in Templeton. [Ref] She married Stephen
Townsend. [Ref, 2;422]
DORCAS WHITCOMB (1730-1803)
Parents: Nathaniel Whitcomb and Rosella Coombs
Dorcas Whitcomb was born on 8 Mar 1729/30 [Ref][Ref]
in Rochester. [Ref, d. Nathaniel and Rosella][Ref, p. 13, 8 Feb] She died
on 10 Dec 1803, age 73, [Ref][Ref,
p. 13] in Barnard, Windsor, Vermont. [Ref,
p. 13] She married Solomon Aikens on 8 Feb
1749/50 in Hardwick. [Ref][Ref,
p. 11][Ref, p. 13] She is buried along with
her husband in the Center cemetery in Barnard, Windsor, Vermont. [Ref]
Sixth Generation
SARAH ("SALLY") WHITCOMB (1783 - 1838)
Parents: Jonathan Whitcomb and Relief
Fyfe. [Ref, 2;422]
Sarah Whitcomb was born on 15 Mar 1783. [Ref]
Sally, the daughter of Jonathan, was baptised on 3 Sep 1786 in Templeton. [Ref]
She died on 12 Sep 1838, age 59 years, seven months and three days [!], and
is buried with her husband in the Slocum Family Cemetery in Lake, Wauconda,
Illinois. [Ref]
Sally married Jeremy Slocum [Ref,
2;422] on 20 Feb 1809 in Templeton. [Ref] Sarah
is clearly the sister of Patience and Polly, also baptised as the daughters
of Jonathan in Templeton. Patience is probably named for Relief's mother.
We know that Sarah Whitcomb's birthdate from her grandson. But it does not
match with the age on her tombstone. We know that Jeremy married a Sally Whitcomb
in Templeton and it appears that there is only one Sally Whitcomb of the right
age, the Sally who was baptised as the daughter of Jonathan.
